RW3RT

RW3RT 1936 Issue,

"The rocky ledge runs far out into the sea, And on its outer point, some miles away, The lighthouse lifts its massive masonry, A pillar of fire by night, of cloud by day." - Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, The Lighthouse Longfellow, who was born in Portland, frequently visited in his younger years. "The Lighthouse" was probably inspired by his many hours at Portland Head Light. The Portland Head Light is the oldest lighthouse in Maine, erected in 1791. This stamp features an incredible remarque by Ken Michaelsen, encompassing the lighthouse, rocky shore line, and Atlantic Ocean all serving as a perfect compliment to the Canada geese on the stamp. The remarque flows from the selvage on to the stamp, creating one creatively blended scene. You could easily forget that the actual stamp design has none of the added elements. This is truly an exceptional remarque by a master!

An outstanding tribute remarque by Ken Michaelsen. The stamp background of Roger Preuss' stamp has been extended into the side and bottom selvage in a perfect color match. RW18RC

RW18RC 1951 Gadwall,

Remarques are especially wonderful on the mono-color stamps, they really bring the stamp to life. Here, Ken Michaelsen has added a recognition remarque on Maynard Reece's second federal stamp. A full color gadwall fills the bottom selvage, also filled with reeds and matching water. F-VF NH

RW21RC

RW21RC 1954 Ring-necked Duck,

A ring-necked duck is a compact duck with a peaked head, a grey bill with a white band, a shiny purple head, a white breast, yellow eyes and a dark grey back. The ring-necked duck does have a "ringed neck," but the cinnamon neck ring is usually difficult to observe. All these striking details of the duck, however, are very clear in this recognition remarque by Ron Jenkins. On Harvey Sandstrom's stamp, Jenkins has colored in the background of the black and white stamp and added a drake and hen in full color in the selvage. Very creative, signed by Jenkins in the selvage,VF NH

RW23RT

RW23RT 1956 American Merganser,

A tribute remarque by Ron Jenkins on the first duck stamp by Ed Bierly. Jenkins has painted a very realistic scene of a merganser drake diving for a fish. The American merganser (now usually referred to as a common merganser), is a large, sleek diving duck, with a long, pointed bill with serrated edges, which are shown on the stamp. Signed in the selvage by Jenkins, VF NH

RW26RC

RW26RC 1959 Black Lab/Mallard,

The world's most popular duck stamp receives a fine remarque here by Ron Jenkins, in recognition of Maynard Reece. Jenkins has extended the background reeds on to the bottom selvage, with perfectly matched color and brush strokes, and added a second mallard. A good day retrieving for King Buck!
